ROMA - Ci sono le aziende pronte a sfruttare le potenzialita' pubblicitarie di un sito che ha come estensione il proprio nome, istituzioni pubbliche come i Comuni interessate alla propria immagine sul web e privati cittadini alla ricerca di un nuovo modo per fare soldi con la registrazione, e la conseguente vendita a prezzo maggiorato, di nomi di siti appetibili al grande pubblico.

Tutti sono sulla linea di partenza in attesa del via dell'Icann, l'organismo internazionale che vigila sull'organizzazione del Web, che giovedi' a mezzogiorno iniziera' ad accettare proposte di registrazioni di nuovi domini primari da affiancare a quelli tradizionali come .com o .info. Le restrizioni per i nomi dei nuovi domini, che costeranno ognuno 185 mila dollari (145 mila euro) sono minime, e riguardano soprattutto questioni tecniche come la presenza di numeri. Hanno gia' manifestato il loro interesse per l'adozione di un'estensione particolare diverse aziende, ma anche alcune grandi citta' come Londra, che potrebbe registrare il dominio .london per siti legati al turismo. La decisione di espandere il numero dei domini autorizzati, che ora sono 22 oltre a quelli legati ai singoli stati come .it o .fr, e' stata presa secondo una nota dell'Icann per promuovere l'innovazione negli indirizzi dei siti web e per aprire i domini anche a caratteri di alfabeti diversi da quello latino: ''Gli utilizzatori cinesi di internet sono ormai la maggioranza - spiega...
